Brunch: The Best Meal of the Day
So far, I’ve tried two new restaurants: both of which are brunch places.
First: The Friendly Toast
The Friendly Toast is a cute, kitchy place in Kendall Square. They have retro memorabilia covering the wall and adorning the place. Vintage signs and toys are peppered throughout including a little boy on a horse that moves, every child in the place had to come look at it.
We did have to wait a while and the food took a bit to come so by the time we ate, around 2, Ben and I were cranky and hungry. When it finally came, the food was really good. They are most well known for their toast (hense the name). Huge thick slices of home made bread toasted and grilled with butter. Amazing.
Second: The Neighborhood Restaurant
This place we tried out on a recommendation of Kim’s friend Cassie. Located in Union Square, Somerville, this is a restaurant and bakery serving Portuguese and American cuisine. They definitely don’t want you to be hungry. Every meal comes with coffee/tea, a small OJ (we presumed it was freshly made), Toast and either fruit (baked apple) or hot cereal . My favorite part was the hot cereal. They call it cream of wheat but it reminds me of something I had in Israel, a Middle Eastern pudding called Sachlab (also known as salep) It was so good I can’t even describe it. The rest of the meal was excellent as well and super inexpensive. We wil definitely be returning here!
